The Beauty of Handicrafts in Inatori, Izu at Hina no Yakata (Hina Dolls) Cultural Park
Hina no Tsurushi-zukuri (Hina Dolls' Decorations) have been handed down since the Edo period (1603-1868). You can experience the culture of handcrafts with tenderness and prayers that decorate both sides of the dolls' dais during the Peach Festival at the Hina no Yakata (Dolls' House) in the Cultural Park in Inatori. The colorful decorations in the museum create a mysterious and warm world.
Experience to see, touch, and enjoy In addition to viewing the exhibits, there are a variety of participatory programs, such as the "hands-on experience of making tsurushi (hanging ornaments)" by the Silk Society and other groups, and a picture writing contest. Visitors can learn about traditions through hands-on activities. A panel display of Inatori Hiname-chan, a hot spring princess, is also popular as a photo spot.
Opening Season and Events The Hina no Yakata is open in three seasons: spring, fall, and winter. Especially from mid-January to late March, it is the site of the "Hina no Tsurushi Matsuri (Hina Decoration Festival)" and many related events are held.
Things to do in the Surrounding Area Izu Inatori is full of attractions such as seafood, hot springs, and seasonal flowers. The morning market at the port and the "Korasshie" fishing port direct sales market offer kamameshi (rice cooked in a pot), dried horse mackerel, fresh citrus fruits and strawberries to add to the enjoyment of your trip. Driving to the area during the Kawazu cherry blossom season is also popular, and many repeat visitors say that the distance from Tokyo is just right. Nearby are the Izu Animal Kingdom, the Atugawa Banana Crocodile Garden, and a number of nearby hot springs (Isonoyu, Kurone Iwa-buro, etc.), making it more than possible to visit all of them in a single day.
Traveler's Comments and a Little Information The "Hina no Yakata" is a small, traditional Japanese-style house with a small shop and a fishing port. Many visitors are "satisfied" with the atmosphere of the area, and the reception of tourist businesses is generally good. During the busy season, it is recommended to act early and have cash on hand.
